Next week Wednesday we are delighted to have a talk by Fields medallist Andrew Okounkov in the African Mathematics Seminar (AfMS). Please see below for the abstract and instructions for how to attend/watch the talk. See you there!

Speaker: Professor Andrei Okounkov (Columbia University, USA)
Title: What the emptiness hides
Time: Wed 25 Nov 3pm (Nairobi time)
Abstract: The talk will be about vacua, that is, states in which some physical system can exist in infinite space for infinite time. We will see that vacua are full of interesting physics and mathematics. In particular, the parameter or moduli spaces of vacua are very interesting objects of study.
Viewing link: To register to attend interactively via Zoom, or watch via YouTube, go to https://sites.google.com/view/africa-math-seminar/
About the seminar: The goal of the seminar is to build mathematical networks across Africa and showcase African mathematical talent. We have a mix of speakers, from PhD students all the way to high profile researchers.
