Life skills are the set of skills and knowledge we need to make better decisions and better plans for the future. We need them to make the most out of life, and to enjoy life fully. Any useful skill is a life skill, from choosing what to wear to certain occasions, reading street signs and text messaging, to the more complex ones like computer programming and designing cities. It is important to keep in mind that the most important life skill is the willingness and ability to learn new skills and the desire to improve oneself.

We can divide life skills into a number of groups based on their nature and the outcome we expect from learning and retaining them. For example, social skills help us communicate with others, be better human beings and maintain healthy relationships. Professional or vocational skills prepare us to look for and apply for jobs, and personal skills help us understand ourselves better, build our self-esteem and maintain healthy and balanced lives.
