Install Audio Recorder on Ubuntu Linux

Audio Recorder is a free application that allows you to record audio from your sound card, microphones, browsers, webcams, music players, Skype calls, and everything plays out of your loudspeakers and more.

The program supports several output formats such as OGG, M4A, FLAC, MP3, MP2, WAV, SPX. See more features. To install the audio recorder on Ubuntu Linux 16.04, 17.04 and 18.04 follow the instructions below.

Add PPA

Launch Terminal from Unity Dash, or via Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut key. When it opens, paste below command and hit run to add PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:audio-recorder/ppa

Update software repository and install the the audio recorder via Synaptic Package Manager or using the following commands:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install audio-recorder


Type on the Terminal audio-recorder to start and use it.

You can optionally remove this audio recorder if you no longer need it, use Synaptic Package Manager or run command:

sudo apt-get remove audio-recorder
