NMSU Mathematical Sciences Graduate School Fall 2020 Admissions

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at New Mexico State University anticipates positions to be open in our Master’s and Ph.D. programs for fall 2022. Our department offers TAs at both the Master’s and Ph.D. level valued at approximately $19,000 per year. We also have a major Kist Foundation grant that allows us to support a limited number of Kist Fellows and various educational initiatives. Our department has strong research groups in Algebra, Applied Analysis, Foundations, and Probability and Statistics https://math.nmsu.edu The local area is a beautiful mix of Spanish and US cultures, a desert/mountain climate, and a relatively low cost of living. If you have a strong background in mathematical statistics, probability, or a related field (like ergodic theory or functional analysis), we're off to a good start! The Gatsby Unit is part of University College London and focuses on machine learning and theoretical neuroscience. We specialize in research and research training: We have a PhD programme and postdoctoral trainees, but no undergraduate or MSc programme.

Our PhD programme provides a rigorous preparation for a research career.
Although each student eventually chooses an advisor, the programme is highly interactive, and the unit functions more like a single large research group loosely divided into subgroups than a regular university department. Many leading researchers in both machine learning and neuroscience have studied or worked in the Unit. Overall, about 2/3 of our alumni are in academia, many are faculty members at the world's leading universities, others have founded companies (including DeepMind), and almost all are active in research. Full funding is available to all students, regardless of nationality. Gatsby PhD studentships cover the cost of tuition at the appropriate rate, and include a tax-free stipend, presently £24,000 per annum. The Unit also welcomes applications from students with pre-secured funding or who are currently soliciting other scholarships/studentships.

CIMPA School - Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Data Science 18-29 July 2022

Positions for postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate students affected by the war in Ukraine at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics

Perimeter Institute is offering positions in theoretical physics for postdocs and graduate students affected by the crisis in Ukraine. These positions are open to final-year undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs whose study or research has been interrupted by the Ukrainian crisis. Citizens of all countries are eligible to apply for the below positions:

• Final-year undergraduate students and first-year master's students will join the 10-month PSI master's program, enrolling at the University of Waterloo
• Current PhD students will work with a Perimeter faculty member for the duration of their stay, typically up to one year
• Postdocs will join Perimeter's collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment for up to one year

Positions may begin as soon as May 1, 2022. Start dates will be arranged on an individual basis with selected applicants, and Perimeter will work with all successful applicants to assess funding needs and requirements.

African Research Training School: 29/08/22 - 17/09/22 AIMS-Senegal

AIMS Senegal, CIMPA, EMS-CDC are organizing a two-week summer school followed by a short conference for students based in Africa.
Two groups will work in parallel (each with about 10 members) in one of the following two areas

- PDE analysis
- Probability and statistics

The target audience is students at the end of their master's degree and PhD students in their first or second year of their thesis. The participants will be financed for their travel and stay during the whole event.

Specificities : This school will be extended by mentoring by the speakers throughout the thesis. We will also set up financial support possibilities to improve the thesis conditions of the participants.
