A PhD student is needed for a project that aims to develop and apply a new DNA sequencing-based technology for quantifying the aging of the human immune system. The technology will be applied to study the impact of immunological aging on susceptibility to specific communicable and non-communicable diseases.

This is a collaborative project between the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) South Africa, Unistel Medical Laboratories Ltd, and the newly established Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Stellenbosch University. The experimental component of the project will be done at Unistel, while the computational part will be done at AIMS.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in experimental molecular biology as well as a strong aptitude and interest to learn quantitative methods necessary for interpreting DNA sequence data.

To apply, send both your CV and a letter of motivation to Ms. Joan Africa-Brown (joan@aims.ac.za). The application deadline is November 15, 2015.
