WeChat is a popular micro-messaging cross platform application that supports texting, images, videos, group chats and more with over thousand million active monthly users currently. Apart from the basic messaging facilities, WeChat provides payment services in China; used to pay for bills, goods, services, and even for transferring money.

There is no official WeChat client for Linux Desktops, but the Linux world has found a way around. You can easily install WeChat (Electronic WeChat - a unoffical WeChat client) on macOS and Linux, built with Electron, from snap store. First, make sure snap support is enabled in your Desktop store, and run the command

  1. sudo snap install electronic-wechat

By the installation date, electronic-wechat is version 2.0 from DawnDIY (ubuntu-dawndiy).

Type in the Terminal electronic-wechat to launch it, and for the first time, scan the QR code to log in.
