We are seeking a self-motivated PhD student with a background in science and excellent
computer and programming skills. The student will work in the Big Data for Science and
Society collaboration, which is one of UKZN's flagship projects to foster interdisciplinary
research in the area of big data and informatics.

The successful candidate will work at the intersection of machine learning and (quantum)
physics, with ample opportunity for other cross-disciplinary projects. The particulars of the
research will be adapted to the student's skills sets and interests, but should have a
prominent component of data analysis and coding.
Applicants must have:

a strong background in computation and programming,
a MSc in a STEM or STEM-related area (preferably),
good social and communication skills,
a strong academic record,
commitment and motivation.

A full bursary (standard NRF rate) is available.
