Due to the interactive nature of the workshop and our space constraints, we expect to cap attendance at approximately 50 people. Astro Hack Week is a mixture of data analysis summer school and unconference-enabled collaborative research. There are no formal prerequisites.
Participants will learn the theoretical foundation of, and practical knowledge in, statistical and machine learning methods crucial to modern astronomical data analysis. We welcome participants to bring their own research projects with them; Astro Hack Week is a great place to apply new skills and methods, and work with others to move these projects forward. It is also an opportunity to work on something new, and we encourage participants to apply their technical knowledge to outstanding problems in the astronomical community.

Kavli Institute for Cosmology, Cambridge are delighted to host Astro Hack Week 2019.Astro Hack Week 2019 Application
Astro Hack Week 2019 will happen August 26 - 30, 2019 at the Kavli Institute for Cosmology in Cambridge, UK. Based on past experience, we're expecting to have more applications than spots. We would like to ask you to fill out the form below in order to be considered to attend Astro Hack Week by March 18th 2019. We will let you know about attendance by mid-April. We will have a limited amount of travel funding available (there's a question at the end). The workshop encourages collaboration between participants, rather than competition, and provides extensive opportunities each day for participants to work with each other. The meeting is aimed at astronomers and researchers from other fields (including, but not limited to, statistics and computer science) with an interest in both astronomy and data science. We welcome applications from researchers at all stages in their careers, as well as from industry. In addition, we welcome participants from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels with data science-related methods and tools, from beginners to experts. Participant selection will be made with the goal of enhancing the data science community within astronomy, and we particularly encourage requests to attend from junior astronomers and people who are new to data-driven astronomy. You can read all about our participant selection procedure here: https://danielahuppenkothen.wordpress.com/2016/03/14/organizing-astro-hack-week-part-2-selecting-participants/ Finally, by completing this form you agree for your data to be used for the purpose of participant selection as well as demographic comparisons with past and future Astro Hack Weeks.
