Applications are invited for fully-funded Ph.D. positions in the Department of Computer Science at Boston University, within the Theoretical Computer Science group (TCS). The selected candidates will collaborate with Prof. Alina Ene and Prof. Lorenzo Orecchia on algorithms for large-scale convex and combinatorial optimization. Candidates who like algorithmic problem solving and have theoretical computer science/mathematical backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. More information on TCS at BU can be found here: http://www.bu.edu/cs/theory/

Boston is a great location for a Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science. Thanks to the presence of numerous universities (MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, BU, Tufts, UMass, BC, Brandeis) and research institutions (Microsoft New England, MERL, the medical schools), the city has a critical mass of researchers in TCS and related areas, with numerous possibilities for collaboration and learning. Boston is also a very intellectually stimulating, cosmopolitan, yet livable, compact city. Boston University is located in the heart of Boston, at walking distance from Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and Microsoft Research New England.

The Department of Computer Science prides itself on an open research environment that strongly encourages collaborations, both within BU and with other Boston-area institutions. The Department has a long tradition of producing high-quality research results and its PhD graduates have been successful in finding prestigious academic and industrial positions. To support our students, all accepted PhD students are guaranteed funding for 5 years, as long as they continue to satisfy academic requirements and maintain good academic standing.

We encourage all interested students to submit their application by Dec 15, 2016. Late applications will be considered on a rolling basis while spaces are available. Instructions on how to apply can be found here: https://www.bu.edu/cs/graduate/admissions/

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lorenzo Orecchia.
