The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), as a publicly funded, self-governing organization of the institutions of higher education in Germany, promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with developing countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programmes. The purpose of the programme is to provide opportunities to post-doctoral researchers to conduct co-operative research at AIMS South Africa, under the guidance of the research chair holder. The programme is designed to support post-doctoral training. There is also a teaching responsibility (English) - in agreement with the chair holder.
DAAD is offering one fellowship in 2017

Who can apply?

Applicants have to

have completed their PhD degree preferably less than three years ago.
be current or prospective teaching or research staff at an international university or research institution.
be preferably nationals of an African country.

Eligible Fields

Data Science
Data Science in a very broad sense. We are looking for a candidate with experience including, but not limited to, one or more of the following areas:

Numerical Optimization / Numerical Linear Algebra
Approximation Theory / Functional Analysis
High-dimensional (Computational) Statistics
Bayesian Statistics and Probability
Signal Processing / Applied Harmonic Analysis
Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence
Parallel Computing and Programming
Graph Theory and Complex Networks
